Beyond perplexing. Sometimes I genuinely don't understand the process used when determining nominations. I feel it's essentially turned into the rough equivalency of the teachers union. Wherein seniority trumps all. You've been around for over a decade with above average numbers? Sure, here's your award. Quick doesn't deserve a nomination because of how many games he appeared in. There shouldn't be participation awards for the highest honor of any particular position. Give me a break. And this coming from a diehard Kings fan. You know who is worthy of a nomination and WILL win it? Drew Doughty. I'd also be just fine with a Kopitar nomination. This Quick one is absurd. Especially when considering what we just witnessed in the playoffs this year.

I feel like they lumped him in there in an effort to be fair. At least he got a nomination. The core, our Holy Trinity, (8,11,32) are all up for awards and are still very very good. We will remain competitive while they are around.

EDIT: he also had a great year, playoffs aside. I think its funny that when a team does well, its a team thing. But when they do bad, its all on the goalie. I don't blame Quick for what happened in the playoffs.

Wow, Quick really didnt deserve this nomination.

A high level stats look:

Quick
40-23-5
.918 sv pct
2.22 GAA

Bishop
35-21-4
.926 sv pct
2.06 GAA

Holtby
48-9-7
.922 sv pct
2.20 GAA

Quick is 16th in sv pct among goalies with a minimum of 40 games played. 6th in GAA but 2nd in wins.

Here is the main beef: Crawford, Luongo, and Schneider all deserved the nomination over Quick.

Quicks numbers are largely inflated by the team in front of him, which is reflected in the low GAA and high wins, despite the very mediocre save percentage.

Quick also played behind the #1 possession team in the NHL regular season this year.

Crawford played behind the the #15 possession team, Luongo played behind the #20 team, and astonishingly, Schneider put up his numbers behind the 29th ranked possession team in the NHL. SECOND TO LAST.

More just a vent out loud but this was a sad reputation vote for Quick by the GMs. I think enough GMs probably didnt pay attention to Florida this year being a small market team to give Luongo due credit. Ditto to Schneider in NJ and them a pretty non factor for playoffs most of the year despite being close in the hunt for a while. I think Crawford got dinged due to them being the cup champions and all the stars they had on their team and Kane having a Hart type season, but a lot of people dont realize how bad their team play in front of Crawford was all season if it were for Kane piling up the points and Crawford stealing games

Quick gets a large reputation for stealing games (not really deserved IMO) when its mostly just timely saves in games where LAK mostly dominate play, shot suppression, and possession by the 5 skaters in front of him

I mean, he could have a GAA of 2.00 for the season, but if LAK is suppressing qualities chances like they usually do and only give up 2 goals on 22 shots a night you would think that was great stats, but you dont want your goalie operation at a .909 sv pct every night. A large reason why wins and GAA are very misleading as he would be giving up goals on very limited quality chances exposed to every night which is not what you want

If that's true, then it's about time that the West Coast teams get some recognition over the East. I don't feel bad at all considering the giant amount of snubs that players from the West have gotten in awards consideration over the past few decades.

Also, if you ever watched the Kings play, you would know exactly how amazing Quick is and how many times he single-handedly steals games. He made more jaw-dropping saves this season alone than some goalies make in their entire careers.

I think Kopitar and Bergeron will have a dogfight for the Selke this year. Toews had a relatively pedestrian season, and there's really no one else that stands out. Thornton maybe, but he doesn't spend any time on the penalty kill, so I don't think he'll win.

Sadly, I think that Doughty will get snubbed again in favor of Karlsson because fans of East conference teams think that good defense is measured by how many points you get.

I just have to throw this in here because I think it's such an awesome feat. Since 2003, a California team has been in the conference final 10 out of 12 times, reached the Stanley Cup final 3 times and won all 3. Whoever says California is not a hockey market is a waste of space is a complete idiot.

There's still an opportunity for a CA team to reach CF for a 7th time in a row with the Sharks. C'mon Sharks!...yeah, I went there.

Thats not even the worst part.

In all 4 of those series, Anaheim led 3-2 in EVERY of those series.

Which means they went 0-8 to close out every one of those series. They blew every 7 game series when they were leading and let the other team post back to back do or die wins. Amazing

He said "this one feels different because the Ducks played well and deserved better."

WHAT?!?! You can't spin this.

Rinne played a freakishly good game.

He's an idiot, and everyone in the world knows this except for those delusional quak fans.... This loss is hilarious... They were so happy to get the division banner and yet for 4 straight years, they have nothing to show for it

No shame. They are a lot more likable right now. They will take care of Nashville and then face, me thinks, the Blues. That series will be a classic.

Hopefully Big joe gets a nomination for the selke but i think kopitar will win it and doughty/klingberg will win the norris over karlsson... That said I definitely think crawford should have gotten nominated for the vezina over quick... i wonder where jones would fall in the rankings, his stats weren't very far behind.

Completely agree on the Kopitar/Bergeron battle. You'd assume the fact the Bruins failed to qualify for the playoffs gives Kopi an inherent advantage this time around. In terms of Karlsson vs. Doughty, if Doughty doesn't take home the Norris this year the NHL selection committee should be shipped off to Siberia permanently. The NHL's obsession with purely offensive defenseman needs to stop. I'd bet heavy, heavy money on Doughty taking home the Norris this time around. Also helps the Senators didn't qualify for the playoffs. And frankly, I'm not even particularly worried about it either. Doughty will win the Norris. This ones pretty straight forward in my book.

It doesn't make too much of a difference, but the Ducks were 1-8 if you don't just cherry pick the series they lost. They did close out Dallas in 6 games 2 years ago. The curse is alive nonetheless. And it appears it will be here as long as Boudreau is. Which means it should be over soon.

BTW, to all those people saying Quick isn't that good a goalie, you're not very good judges of talent. You probably thought Hasek sucked too. I'll take Quick any day.

If we're being realistic here, the constant failures and meltdowns of the Ducks can be attributed solely to the players themselves and not the coach. Last time I checked, Bruce Boudreau isn't capable of jogging let alone strapping the skates on and skating around on the ice to have any real impact on the games of his own doing. He's purely a scapegoat for the chronic under performing core of the Ducks organization (Perry, Getzlaf etc) when it's mattered most. And I love Quick, stoked to have him. Doesn't change my opinion of him not being good enough to be nominated in the 2015-2016 season. The Kings play an airtight defensive system and Quick is often the beneficiary. I hold Quick to higher standards because of that fact. That's all I've said. Love having him.
